A member asked:

Hello doctors my daughter just scratched herself on a rough wall. there was a liquid coming from her hand but no blood. is it a deep wound or scratch on hand. am scared she could get hiv or infection from wall. she is 2years?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not HIV from walls: Walls don't carry or transmit blood-borne viruses like HIV, unless the wall is coated with blood from other people who have HIV. There is rarely, if ever, a wall that meets that criteria. For skin abrasions, there is an opening for germs to get in, so infection is always possible. After typical first aid of washing with regular soap and water, one can give one's doctor a call or a video visit.
