A member asked:

Can the vagus nerve be affected if you have the flu or other infections to cause palpitations?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not unique for flu to cause diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. GI tract is innervated by the vagus nerve on the left. Stimulation of the right vagus nerve can slow the heart. Palpitations are caused by many mechanisms, and if you have abnormal heart rhythms, see your doctor ASAP.
