Change thermometer: Typically in these situations it is recommended to use an infrared thermometer that does not require to be touched and is easy to clean in between people. Oral or touch thermometers should be avoided unless they are sanitizing in between people and using new covers for each person. This can be cumbersome for large number of people. You should suggest infra red thermometers to them.

COVID 19: Non-contact infrared thermometers are usually used for this purpose. If this is the case, it is not likely to spread germs. However, being in close proximity in indoor settings can increase risk for transmission of COVID 19. Thus, unless there is good social distancing and use of masks- going to church may be risky.
