I started feeding my 6 month old baby rice cereal on thursday as recommended, but she has more dirty diapers than normal and last night she was coughing during the night and today while changing her diaper i discovered a rash is this an allergy?

Diaper rash: Local irritation and a diaper rash may have been due to the change in her diet. Rice cereal for babies is fortified with iron and an important part of her diet. Other alternatives may include mashed vegetables, baby oatmeal and brown rice cereal. Apply local diaper cream with changes, keep the area clean and dry and please follow up with your pediatrician. Watch for signs of peeling and blisters.

I doubt it...: It really sounds more like she picked up a minor bug and stools were a bit more irritating than normal for her. Allergy rashes are usually more generalized, usually more on extremities, and not usually just in diaper region. Furthermore, rice is not a very allergenic grain, so allergy to it unusual. Probably picked up something at last well check or from another ill child- always hands in mouth
