Infection: Some discharge is normal depending on where you are in your cycle. Discharge with irritation and itching can be a sign of an infection. Yeast infections produce curd-like white/yellow discharge, some STD's cause thinner, liquidy discharges. Your Dr should be able to examine you and determine if further testing is needed. Most STD's are simple to treat with prescription medications.
