I have heard and read that molluscum contagiosum in adults is only present if they are hiv+ and it doesn't affect the healthy adults, is it true? i have two 4mm lesions on either side of my chest since 8 months. too scared! please help docs?

Molluscum and HIV: Not true. Most molluscum in adults occurs in the genital area (acquired by sex with an infected partner) in people without HIV. Non-genital MC can be recurrence of distant past childhood infection due to advanced immune deficiency, but only in advanced AIDS. If you're otherwise well, HIV is doubtful. Don't assume the diagnosis: see a doctor. If MC is confirmed, she may test you for HIV.
