A member asked:

Can low blood sodium cause persistent hiccups?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Persistent hiccups: Persistent hiccups are usually caused by irritability of the vagus or phrenic nerve. I'm not familiar with hyponatremia causing such irritability, but I have read a case report of persistent hiccups occurring in 2 patients with hyponatremia which is a serious electrolyte and metabolic disorder.
