A 25-year-old male asked:

is it safe to smoke weed after getting anti rabies vaccine?

Dr. Robert Kwok

Not safe: Smoking is inhaling smoke (which is full of lung irritants, cancer-causing chemicals, and chemicals not known to be carcinogenic) and is always unhealthy. Weed is illegal under US federal law, so one can also end up convicted of a crime (unless current laws are modified in the coming years).

Dr. Anatoly Belilovsky
Pediatrics 35 years experience
Yes: There are 3 major types of bacterial meningitis after the age of 2 months -- hib, pneumococcal, and meningococcal. There are effective vaccines for the major strains of all of them. E. Coli and group b strep are responsible for most cases of meningitis under 2 months of age; there are no vaccines for them, yet, and treatment of certain maternal infections is key to lessen the risk of such illnes.

MMR after delivery: The measles vaccine (MMR) is a live-virus vaccine, so it is not given to pregnant women or to women just about to become pregnant. It can be given to the mom after her baby is born.
