Hormonal fluctuation: Cramping can be a normal part of the ovarian cycle. Even when a person is on hormonal contraceptives and there is no menses, other symptoms such as cramping, headaches or PMS can still occur. Hormonal fluctuations due to stress, weight gain/loss, exercise, and lack of sleep can cause the symptoms to be more noticeable.
