A member asked:

Can you have crohn's your whole life and not know it? does it always progress? what's the likelihood of it progressing without treatment? current medicine, will you still likely need surgery?

Crohn's disease: Children can develop Crohn's disease, usually have more severe and widespread involvement but also can go into remission for many years and have no obvious symptoms. Progressive disease is more common and certain complications can require surgery even when on medication. Since the cause is unknown, there is no cure for cases that are not in remission.
