With today's "low dose oral contraceptive pills", the ovaries are silent, and levels of estrogen in the "active" pills are low, so "withdrawal bleeding may be scant and difficult to directly observe on occasion. It is important to not allow more than seven days of "placebo pills" to elapse, to avoid ovulation. To be certain, obtain a serum HCG test to rule out pregnancy.
