Not safe: Sex without a condom is how sexually transmitted diseases like HIV are spread. Having sexual contact without condoms is never safe. With regards to pregnancy prevention, if you are interested in starting the pill why wait until your period to start the pill? You can safely start any day of your cycle so see your physician, get tested for STD's and get on the pill.
