Wrong antibiotics: By far the most common kind of "recurrent vaginal infection" is bacterial vaginosis. BV results from overgrowth of mostly normal vaginal bacteria, although some cases are triggered by sex. (Experts debate whether to consider BV an STD.) The usual treatment is metronidazole by mouth, or sometimes by vaginal gel. Cipro, cefuroxime, and similar drugs rarely work. Condoms can help prevent recurrences.
