No: The xray should indicate whether there is evidence of healing. The fracture and any deformity may be visible (and palpable) but the key is if the bone is mending. Your orthopedist should be able to give you guidance.

Maybe: After 10 months the majority of the fracture should be healed. A pilon fracture is a severe injury to the leg, and may develop a nonunion (unhealed) fracture. You should not be able to actually feel the fracture through the skin.

Pain, CT scan: At 10 months, clinical signs are the best indicator of a nonunion. Persistent pain localized to the fracture and tenderness at the fracture site are signs of nonunion. In combination with lack of evidence of the fracture healing on the Xrays this would suggest a possible nonunion. A Ct scan may also be helpful in determining healing.
