Watch and wait: If the discharge is vaginal, it could be from irritation, infection or premenstrual. Watch for a few days to see how it evolves. Infections are usually malodorous, white, yellow or green. They frequently burn or itch. Irritation can occur after intercourse leading to discharge that is light red. It resolves rapidly. Premenstrual discharge evolves into darker red blood after 24 hours.
