A member asked:

I had an endoscopy today. during the procedure they found: erythema in the gastroesophageal junction. (biopsy). abnormal mucosa in the antrum. (biopsy). will you please put this in layman's terms. thank you very much?

Basics: Erythema=red which suggests dilated blood vessels. Gastroesophageal junction=where the swallow tube enters the stomach. Mucosa= the surface layer of tissue. Antrum = the area near the entrance. The terms are not specific but suggest the kind of irritation that occurs with acid reflux. It does not suggest a cancer or other bad problem.

Agree with Dr. F: The report implies redness at the lower end of food pipe from stomach acid coming up to the food pipe. If you are overweight, losing weight will help with the matter.
