Lower jaw...: ...is like a long bone in our arm, bent into a "U" shape, with the growing areas at either end. From birth to adulthood the rami lengthen vertically. Their distal (back) surfaces grow horizons-transversely while the medial (front) surfaces resorb (dissolve away.)
