A member asked:

Is small cell lung cancer common in former smokers? since it tends to be agressive, the risk of developing that would decline faster after quit smoking or is it the same as nsclc and the risk of getting it could be there decades after quiting?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes: All lung cancers or more common in former smokers. Even after quitting for 25 years the ink to former smokers is 4 times greater than for people who never smoked so some increase risk is always there. Data not clear about separate types and decreasing risk but most lung cancers now are adenocarcinomas as opposed to squamous cell and small cell in the past.Crucial for former smokers to be screened
