Bacterial vaginosis?: The most common cause of strong vaginal odor, especially fishy odor, is bacterial vaginosis -- an overgrowth of mostly normal bacteria. STDs also can cause odor, either directly or by triggering BV. Both STDs like chlamydia, gonorrhea, trichomonas, and BV itself can last months; no sex since January doesn't mean no STD.
