A member asked:

Is someone with minor to moderate anaemia at a higher risk of serious illness if infected with covid-19?

Not officially: Anaemia is not one of the conditions officially listed as associated with more severe illness. High risk conditions: heart disease, congestive heart failure, hypertension, pulmonary disease, diabetes, obesity, age greater than 75. I would imagine since anaemia affects the ability to carry oxygen to the cells, if covid illness is severe, there would be higher chance of fatigue and low oxygenation

Not usually: Sickle Cell anemia increases risk. Risk may also be increased in patients with aplastic anemia who are receiving immunosuppressive treatments. However, mild anemia is not considered a risk factor for worse COVID 19 outcome at this time.
