Exam advised: You really should be evaluated by a physician to ensure that the symptoms are due to reflux and/or an inflamed esophagus and not cardiac problems.. In the meantime avoid caffeine, alcohol, nicotine, spicy and greasy foods, aspirin, and anti-inflammatory medications like ibuprofen or naproxen. Famotidine is fast acting but omeprazole can also relieve symptoms.
