Not reliably: The only recommended treatment for syphilis is penicillin by injection. Amoxicillin might work, but is not reliable and should not be used.

Syphillis concerns: Agree with Dr. Handsfield, Please don't try to self treat. Do you currently have syphillis or are you worried that you may have contracted it? If so, please contact your physician or an STD clinic for assessement.

No: Penicillin injection is the most effective and reliable treatment for syphilis. For nonpregnant patients who are allergic to penicillin, doxy- or tetracycline is recommended. To ascertain a cure, sequential blood tests are needed as well.
