A member asked:

Liquid stool for 3 days, 5 per day and most recent was black. birthday is 08/09/2019. no other symptoms have occurred besides vomiting twice today. noticed he may or may not have swallowed a small piece of carpet string, may be reasoning for black st?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Black stool: Black stool is a sign of bleeding in the stomach or duodenum. However, taking iron supplements, or bismuth containing antidiarrheal medications like peptobismol or kaopectate can cause black stools. Did he vomit red blood or coffee grounds looking material which are also signs of upper gi bleeding? I recommend getting checked in the hospital emergency room to check for bleeding gastritis or ulcer
