29 year old male diagnosed with graves disease. when treating hyperthyroidism how safe is radioactive treatment vs treating with medication?

Both safe: Both treatment modalities are safe. Medications may not maintain remission and require treatment with radio-isotopes to destroy enough thyroid tissue to induce permanent remission. Wish you good health!

PTU (propylthiouracil): Many women have a transient elevation in thyroid levels in the first trimester and are really not hyperthyroid. But for those women who truly have hyperthyroidism, ptu (propylthiouracil) is generally used in the first trimester. Both ptu (propylthiouracil) and Methimazole are category d and have risks associated with them. Some doctors recommend switching to Methimazole in the second trimester but this is controversial.
