Genital herpes: Most STD testing does not include tests for HSV infection unless there are symptoms that suggest herpes. See other reply about testing: PCR or culture of an oral outbreak, or a blood test for antibody to HSV1 and HSV2. However, the HSV1 antibody test remains negative in 20-30% of infected people. The main thing is for YOUR virus to be tested to determine HSV type.
