? smelly ?: The vagina has membranes coated with moisture that contains sugar & protein. This is adequate food for many bacteria that will take advantage of the area, move in & produce various smelly gasses after consuming these nutrients. They can come from the nearby anal opening or just accidental contamination. If it bothers her she can have the drainage examined & treatments prescribed.

Vaginal odor: Agree with Dr. Ferguson. I would wonder if you wife has noticed any discharge or associated symptoms. Some vaginal infections can cause odors. You wife may wish to have this evaluated if she perceives changes to vaginal odors and health.
