A member asked:

Can vitamine b12 deficienty cause an overactive thyroid?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not Exactly: The most common cause of both an overactive thyroid and B12 deficiency is autoimmunity, in which the immune system mistakenly attacks one's own tissues and proteins. Having 1 auto-immune condition makes it more likely for a person to develop a 2nd autoimmune condition, but it wouldn't be true to say that one condition caused the other. The underlying autoimmunity caused both.
