Mostly: Vertical (from base to edge) Fingernail ridges are more common as a person ages. Rarely, a person will show many ridges running horizontally (from side to side) which may indicate hyperthyroidism, dietary deficiencies (Magnesium, B vitamins) or diabetes. If you have any other symptoms, see your Dr for a full workup.
