Can call Dr on video: Throat pain can be from a strep throat infection (antibiotics needed), a cold or influenza (antibiotics usually not used), or from some other cause such as allergies or irritants. Usually, a person sees the doctor (call first) if the sore throat is bothersome, recurrent, or doesn't go away quickly. COVID-19 infections tend to have cough, whereas strep usually lacks cough but has more throat pain.

COVID 19: Recommend starting with a telemedicine consult. Many physicians are now providing telehealth in response to this epidemic. The majority of doctors viewing your questions are located in USA. Our policies/ protocols may differ from yours. I refer you to “https://sacoronavirus.co.za/” which is the COVID 19 South African Corona Virus Resource Portal for guidance specific to your area.
