I was busy running on the treadmill and my heart suddenly increased from 160 to 180 bpm without changing intensity it slowly returned to 160bpm over a 5 min period. is this normal?

Over what time: Do you mean it increased within a matter of a couple of seconds? If so, you need to see a cardiologist because that isn't normal and could be an arrhythmia like supraventricular tachycardia. Any heart disease in the family? And chest tightness? No more exercise until u are evaluated, plz.
