A member asked:

My obgyn recommended i use my birth control patch for 9 weeks non stop (changing every week ofc) and then being off of the patch for 4 days and repeating. is this okay? he also said to me it was better for contraception. is this also true?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No for contraception: There is no benefit for contraception in extended cycle use (ECU) of the patch. ECU may delay the time to first bleeding, decrease the number of bleeding days and bleeding episodes. However, it may cause increase incidence of headache, nausea and breast tenderness. There is controversy about increase risk of blood clots in patch users. This risk may be further increase with ECU.
