Constipation: Abdominal discomfort secondary to constipation usually results in abdominal cramping and, often with distension of the abdomen. In my opinion, any other type of persistent abdominal discomfort, especially if there's associated tenderness, should be evaluated by the physician or surgeon. Concerns would be appendicitis, diverticulitis or perforation of the bowel(if the pain and tenderness are severe)
