Time for Check Up: If it has been more than 6 months you need to see your dentist. It may be that you have tartar build up that needs professionally removed. It also may be that you are not efficient in your brushing & flossing & need further instruction on how to clean properly.

Exam/cleaning: If it has been more than 6 months since your last professional examination and cleaning you need to see a Dentist as soon as possible. The Dentist can, as part of your comprehensive treatment, instruct you as to the most effective oral hygiene techniques that match your particular needs. This isn't a do it yourself project, you need professional help.
