Basics: Herd immunity is the label applied to when enough members of the herd (like people) are immune to a contagious disease that easy spread is stopped. Around 60% of the heard needs to be immune for this to be a major factor in stopping a disease spread. The pig eating stuff is a myth. Some viruses are species specific & sometimes mutate to the point they can pass to other species (humans).

Herd immunity: Herd immunity occurs when a high percentage of a population have become immune to an infection and it provides indirect protection to people who are not immune. Eating pigs and bats would not provide immunity to infections like swine flu or COVID 19.
