A member asked:

I'm 14 weeks pregnant. i have been too timid to have sex with my hubby. if there is bleeding after intercourse, what is considered normal? how long does it usually last? is it spotting or a normal flow? when should i be concerned?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

PG post coital bleed: Post intercourse bleeding when pregnant is treated differently than non pregnant status as any bleeding in pregnant patients bears OB MD investigation. At 14 weeks the bleeding may be from early signs of miscarriage. However, later in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters of pregnancy placental issues are more prevalent. The fetus is generally well protected in the uterus for gentle intercourse to be safe.
