Soft tissue injury: Often times when there has been a soft tissue injury to a finger, a peripheral nerve to that area can be injured along with muscle and skin. Symptoms after an injury such as swelling and turning purple (bruising) often times indicates that there has been enough soft tissue injury that a nerve may be temporarily injured as well. These conditions usually last only a brief time.
