Dr. Robert Lowe answered

Specializes in Pediatric Rheumatology

Autoimmune disease: Juvenile arthritis is an autoimmune disease that affects children where their own white blood cells "get confused" and attack some of their joints causing inflammation that can damage their joints. There is no cure now and it is not self-limited.Kids should be followed by a board certified pediatric rheumatologist and almost all will need weekly low dose Methotrexate and a tnf inhibitor like enbrel (etanercept).
