What are the causes of skin cancer and how do you know if you have it?

Sun & Genetics: Skin cancer is usually caused by ultraviolet radiation from the sun, tanning beds, or other sources. There are also certain genetic predispositions that certain people have that make them more likely to get skin cancer than others. If you see a lesion that is growing larger on the skin, particularly if it is pigmented and has irregular borders, see a dermatologist or plastic surgeon to evaluate.

Skin cancer : Most skin cancers are the result of excessive sun exposure/tanning. Genetics play a strong role too. Any skin lesion that is changing size, color, shape or an area that does not heal is suspicious for skin cancer and should be evaluated by a dermatologist.
