Rule out infection: A bronchio alveolar lavage with cultures for bacterial, parasitic and TB infection cultures may be helpful . Cavitary lesions are often associated with other symptoms. If the lesion impinges are vital structures, is expanding and/or causing respiratory difficulty, surgical removal is indicated. If the cause is known and responding to medication, this allows more time for the decision.
