A member asked:

Started the mini pill on the first day of my last period about a month ago. 3 days late on my period this month so far, some cramping and breast tenderness. is a late period on the mini pill common?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Mini-pill ?'s: The "mini-pill" is a low dose progesterone analog, and can delay the onset of ovulation, which in turn can delay menstruation. Sometimes periods are infrequent to absent on the mini-pill. Cramping and breast tenderness may be due to the progesterone analog in the mini-pill, but if other symptoms of pregnancy occur, obtain a serum HCG test to be certain about pregnancy.
