Doctor can recheck: Whenever a problem does not go away on treatment, one's doctor can reassess. A primary care doctor can recheck the entire patient, to make sure the first diagnosis was correct. There can be more than one condition at one time, or a person can catch a new problem during treatment. Persistent symptoms may mean more meds needed, different meds needed, more time needed to heal, more tests needed, etc.
