Hi i have had migraine auras for 9 years. i do not get the migraine only the visual side. i do not smoke and i am not on the contraceptive pill. i am so scared im going to have a stroke? is it rare to have one with aura? i dont get them often

Migraine aura: It is felt that migraine aura increases the risk for ischemic stroke. Accordingly you should minimize other risk factors like hyperlipidemia,hypertension,prediabetes, and for more protection I would recommend taking low dose aspirin daily unless there are contraindications. It would be advisable to discuss these recommendations with your MD as he/she knows your status the best.
