A way to treat asthma is to use steroid inhalers to suppress the immune response or inflammation in the lungs that happens in asthma patients when they have a lung infection, or get allergy symptoms, or get other reasons. Steroid inhalers usually continue to be beneficial when one "gets a virus."

Asthma plan: Continue your usual inhaler which is a controller medication usually used daily, even while having a common cold. Use your salbutamol as per your asthma plan and for relief of bronchospasm. A spacer device may be used to improve delivery of the medication. Watch for signs of prolonged cough, wheezing and shortness of breath.
