Yes: The way we clinical psychologists and psychiatrists think about depression is that some have more of a " genetic vulnerability" to become clinically depressed than others. Having this vulnerability does not mean the person will certainly become depressed but what depends is the amount of stress in that person's life combined with the level of their vulnerability.
