They can.: Your brain's chemistry fluctuates and flows moment to moment depending on what you are experiencing and thinking about. If subjected to a major stressor or repeated stress such as with ptsd, this can lead to more chronic brain changes and more chemical imbalances. Also, chemical imbalances can result in negative thoughts, so it works both ways and can become a cycle.
