Irregular timing: of ovulation, is most likely reason, delayed or absent ovulation will cause you to be late. Of course even late ovulation can achieve a pregnancy if intercourse occurred at at time close to ovulation. Recheck pregnancy test if no period going forward.

No: However, these are more likely to be falsely negative when done early in pregnancy than falsely positive. If yours comes up negative you can re-test in a week if you think its possible. Some normal women will occasionally skip a cycle or two. If you go past 60 days with a negative test some docs would give meds to trigger menses & reset the pattern.
