A member asked:

My 19 year old son developed a red rash on his body. this happened soon after eating some prawns. he has no history of food allergies. he had also been in the sun quite a lot that day while waiting and taking his driving test. ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

? food reaction?: A person can develop a reaction to a given food item or what seasonings it was cooked in any day of their life. If so the rash is often hives (elevated bumps/plaques) and may last a few days until the body completely processes the item. There are skin & blood tests that can correlate with having a food allergy but they are not 100% accurate. Sunlight is unlikely the cause.
