A member asked:

If i have hpv 16 and 18, does this mean that my husband will have this too? will this result in my body not being able to fight off the virus and continuously reinfect? how can this be resolved in a monogamous relationship?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Usually: Unless you acquired these HPV strains long before you met your husband it is likely he has them too. Once the primary infection clears (2-3 yrs) you may or may not shed them & be contagious. He would likely never have issues unless he were to develop esophageal cancer from giving oral while you were infected.
