Time to see doctor: New swallowing symptoms may be from a throat infection or some other cause such as stomach acid reflux, a little object stuck in the throat, a hyperactive gag reflex, a lack of saliva, a throat or esophagus muscle coordination problem, a tumor, etc... Usually, a person sees her primary care doctor for an evaluation, and a referral to ENT or Gastroenterology if needed.
