Great AFTEr wt loss!: Plastic surgery should not be used as a means to lose weight. You should try to lose weight with diet and exercise. If you are obese in the former does not help, you should consider speaking with a bariatric surgeon. The best plastic surgery results with few complications are achieved with patients who have attained their weight loss goals and have only excess hanging skin left over to be removed.

Not Indicated: There are no plastic surgical procedures designed to help patients lose weight. Once patients have achieved a long-term stable weight, there are many procedures available to help with the “residual effects” of the weight loss process. For example, patients may benefit from arm lifting, breast lifting, tummy tuck surgery, and/or liposuction surgery of diet and exercise resistant adipose tissue.

Usually for after : Plastic surgery is more often used to tighten skin after weight loss rather than as a method of weight loss. A large person can have bariatric surgery to loose the weight or just diet and exercise.

Gastric Bypass?: Some people call my office asking about gastric bypass and weight loss surgery. This is not plastic surgery, but you need a bariatric surgeon for that procedure. Plastic surgery can be a great adjunct for patients who have had surigcal weight loss to help contour the skin. Plastic surgery should not be thought of as a way to lose weight.
